"He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
Revelation 21:4

Happy New Year!
Welcome to another Out of the Pit Newsletter.

I hope this finds you safe and well, and refreshed from the holiday period.  Although, if you are anything like me, the Christmas/New Year period seems a long time ago, with all of the planning and strategies busy going on to prepare for 2011.  As we think and plan for the new year, it got me thinking about planning for beyond 2011, planning for heaven.  Planning for the day when there will be no more tear, no more mourning, no more pain.

This month we also think about the people of Queensland and Victoria who have been affected by the floods.  The extent of the flooding has just been horrendous - hard to imagine - and we pray for those who have lost so much. What has been so encouraging is the way that the communities have come together to help one another, and the amazing way the Australian people have responded to adversity.

This year in Out of the Pit, we have big plans already in progress for the annual conference, this year to be held in Brisbane in September.  We will also be focusing on forming a network of mine chaplains throughout Australia.

Until next month, stay safe and God bless,

Work as Ministry Study 4

This month we look at the fourth installment of our Bible Study series "Work as Ministry".

Study Four focuses on Ethics and Decision Making.  In life, we have many laws, rules and regulations that we need to comply with. In the Mining Industry, safety regulations rule.  As Christians, we may feel that we need to set the example of ethical decision making rather than simply obey the rules.  How do we live out these questions in the workplace?  Think through these questions here

"The hope that is laid up for you in heaven" - Colossians 1:5

Our hope in Christ for the future is the main spring and the mainstay of our joy here.  It will animate our hearts to think often of heaven for all that we can desire is promised there. Here we are weary and toil worn, but yonder is the land of rest where the sweat of labor shall no more bedew the worker's brow, and fatigue shall be forever banished. To those who are weary and spent, the word "rest" is full of heaven. We are always in the field of battle; we are so tempted within, and so molested by foes without, that we have little or no peace; but in heaven we shall enjoy the victory, when the banner shall be waved aloft in triumph, and the sword shall be sheathed, and we shall hear our Captain say, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Please pray for
  • Those that have lost everything in the floods, that they may be comforted, loved and supported by their communities
  • The churches who have responded to the flood emergency, that they may be lights for Christ
  • Us all to look to heaven and plan our lives around Heaven
  • Us to sit humbly under God's word as we look at Work as a Ministry
  • OOTP in 2011

Thank God for
  • Providing a place of rest where there will be no more tears, no more pain
  • The assurance of our place in Heaven with Him through Jesus Christ
  • The ability to work, earn money and witness to people through our lives
  • The OOTP team and the work that they are doing to build up servants of Christ.
