Out of the Pit is the online meeting place for people in and around the mining industry who follow Jesus Christ, or want to know more about Him.

Welcome to another OOTP newsletter!

This month our hearts go out to the people of Christchurch who have suffered from the devastating earthquake this week. Broken buildings and roads is nothing compared to the grief and loss that so many families are experiencing.  Let us all draw together and pray for these people, for many of whom their lives will never be the same again.  So many churches have been destroyed - pray that the Christians involved will shine through so people realise a church is not just a building, but a community in Jesus.

Until next month, stay safe,

Work as Ministry

This month we continue our series in looking at our work as a ministry.  Study 5 looks at relationships - the relationships that we have with our work mates.  Do you know your work mates?  Are they just annoying people that you have to deal with each day, or do they build you up and help you along.  What does God have to say about the importance of relationships?  Find the study here.

If you missed the first 4 studies, they are available on our website, under the resources tab.  They are highly recommended!!

The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). - John 1:41

As soon as a man has found Christ, he begins to find others.  Andrew found first his brother Simon, and then others.  When Andrew went to find his brother, he little imagined how eminent Simon would become.  Simon Peter was worth ten Andrews so far as we can gather from sacred history, yet Andrew was instrumental in bringing him to Jesus.  You may be deficient in talent yourself, and yet you may be the means of drawing to Christ one who shall become eminent in grace and service.

Relationship has a very strong demand on our individual efforts.  Andrew did well to begin with his brother.  I doubt whether there are not some Christians giving away tracts at other people's houses who would do well to give away a tract at their own house.  You may or may not be called to evangelise in a particular locality, but you are certainly called to see after your own family, friends and acquaintances.  Let your religion begin at home.

Please pray for:

  • The people of Christchurch in this time of sadness
  • The Christians in New Zealand, that they will shine Jesus in this time
  • Improved relationships with our work collegues
  • Boldness to speak to our friends and family about the Messiah, Jesus.
Thank God for

  • His plans and his purposes, that the words we speak and the actions we make can bring people to the Saviour.
  • That He made us for relationships, with Him and with each other
  • His word, the Bible, that we have reassurance for the future
